These paintings were done over six years ago now (2006). Acrylic on canvas, these two…
I know I’m not alone when I say I am thoroughly inspired by the imagery around Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Colourful, dark, and beautiful. Ever since I first laid eyes on a sugar skull (calaveras de azúcar) I was in love. I mean, these are skulls made of sugar and decorated with more sugar. What’s not to love?
Every October retail shelves are stocked with gobs of halloween-themed figures that are ready to paint. When the holiday passes and these go on sale, I stock up on skulls and every once in a while pull a few out and paint them. I’ve shown a few I did this time around (similar to the ones I created for the Diablo’s Show). Included is a special one I promised to my friend Eric (aka Big E) ages ago.
On my bucket list sits ‘learn spanish‘ and also ‘attend real Day of the Dead celebration in Mexico‘.
